Serving and Learning Together (SALT)
SALT [Serving and Learning Together] is an academic service-learning program designed to enhance the educational experience of undergraduate students at Lipscomb University. Through the SALT Program, students have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of curricular and co-curricular projects that will impact the community, connect academic ideas to they are learning in the classroom to real world experiences, help them develop marketable job skills and network with professionals in the community.
Lipscomb is not only committed to preparing students for a job after college, but also for living a life of Christian service. Service-learning acts as a bridge between the academic, social and spiritual aspects of students’ lives.
Students can choose from projects of varying intensities that focus on issues ranging from homelessness to literacy to hunger. From business students organizing and executing a career workshop for at-risk youth in the community to education students working in local schools to promote literacy, service-learning easily fits into every discipline at Lipscomb.
There are also many opportunities for service-learning outside of the classroom. Students can participate in service-learning through SALT enhanced mission trips, internships, cooperatives and Federal Work Study.
