The Beyond the Books guide strives to highlight colleges “where the classroom meets the real world.” Programs are selected for the publication based on:
  • The quality of the service-learning;
  • The scale and scope of the initiative;
  • The amount of institutional support; and
  • The recognition students receive for participating.
To date, Lipscomb is one of only five schools in Tennessee, and one of almost 250 nationwide, to be profiled in this national guidebook. Student Horizons expects the book to include up to 400 colleges by the time it is published around the new year, said Julianne Salisbury, director of Beyond the Books, the umbrella organization for the guidebook. SALT Center Awards

Community Partner Awards

The SALT Center would like to recognize a few of our community partners for their outstanding commitment and dedication to service-learning at Lipscomb. The SALT Center receives multiple nominations describing community partners who have done an exceptional job working with service-learning faculty and students through the SALT Program. These were organizations that were exceptionally easy to work with and got students excited about serving the community.
Because of our community partners' great dedication to service-learning and the SALT program, we have selected three of them to receive a monetary award to help support their organization.

Outstanding SALT Faculty Award

The SALT Center would like to recognize an individual who has shown great dedication and investment in service-learning at Lipscomb through the SALT program. The Outstanding SALT Faculty Award is a special recognition which honors a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated a commitment to their students and to the community through service-learning. The recipient will receive a special recognition as well as a monetary award.

SALT Scholar

The SALT Scholar is a student who has become an expert in service-learning in the context of our campus and whose investment in service-learning experiences reflects an obvious academic interest in serving others and learning from that service.
Students who become SALT Scholars will have the opportunity to participate as leaders in Lipscomb’s service-learning program. At graduation, SALT Scholars will be designated in special ways, both in graduation regalia and on the graduation program.
